Vascular Access Services
Many patients who receive hemodialysis as their dialysis treatment may experience difficulty with the access area where the treatment takes place. Often, a narrowing of the vein or blood vessel occurs and can lead to clotting of the access called ‘stenosis’. When this occurs, access procedures can be performed to regain free flowing access.
Drs. Attasi, Mitra and Soundararajan are Interventional Nephrologists who are certified by The American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology (ASDIN). These physicians operate out of several Vascular Access Labs where they will restore your access and ensure successful dialysis treatments for the future.
The most common procedure that we perform for stenosis is called Balloon Angioplasty which is a quick, easy and effective method that widens the access using a small balloon to expand the vessel wall and thereby making it possible for blood to flow more freely again.
Other treatments we may perform for access problems include Declotting in which the actual blood clot is removed, and Catheter Placement whereby a thin tube called a catheter is inserted temporarily into the access vein until other arrangements are made.
Our skilled physicians can determine whether your access is allowing for successful dialysis and which procedure is appropriate for your access problems.
